Who We Are We are a group of dynamic and hard-working professionals from around Metro Detroit committed to helping communities in our city, as well as, around the world reach a higher quality of life.
Our Mission EWB Detroit is focused on designing and implementing sustainable projects in cooperation with communities in developing countries to improve the lives of their inhabitants through access to clean drinking water, safe roads and bridges, reliable medical and education facilities and other means.
What We’ve Done Established in April 2007, Detroit Professionals have been gaining momentum ever since. Our first project of installing a potable water system in Las Glorias, Honduras was completed in October 2008 and currently supplies a growing community of 72, with a capacity to supply as many as 215 inhabitants, with clean drinking water for the next 20 years. To use what we learned in Las Glorias, we undertook a similar project in a mountainous region of Buenos Aires, Honduras. There a single water source supplies water to only 26 of 300 families, creating a shortage for many community members. Having received approval for our design, the project team will test the water, analyze the terrain and otherwise complete surveying of the territory during their first assessment trip in February 2009.
Where We Are Headed Consequent stages of our current project in Buenos Aires include traveling to Honduras during the construction of the water distribution system. However, looking beyond our current project, involvement opportunities include bridge and road repairs, building reconstruction to house hospitals and schools and many others.
